I think my mother had one of these when I was growing up, it looks very familiar. Have you started figuring out the emissions crap yet?

According to the quote from the shop, it's the rollover valve and evap can. Also needs a new air pump relay. I haven't found anything else that it would be as yet.

at least you know where to start. Can you do these yourself?

I should be able to. Almost anything I may need but don't have, I know who to borrow it from.

Lovely car. I love 850's a lot. Is the odometer still working? If so, you may have one of the rarest features on the 850!

Thank you, and yes, the odometer is working! For now, anyway.

Nice! I really like the colour. I have an 850R wagon, and although 850s aren't the most exciting cars in the world, they drive nicely, are fantastically comfortable, and surprisingly safe for a '90s car. $250 is an absolute steal for a solid running 850, and at 167,000 miles, it should have loads of life left in it. As you've already found out, they get crazy expensive to own if you take them to mechanics, but if you're okay with doing the work yourself (and they're not all that hard to work on), you can have an awful lot of car for very little money.

I don't know much about the low-pressure turbo cars, but I'm happy to lend general advice if you want it. I can't remember if I've linked these to you before, but the Matthew's Volvo Site 850 forum , and the Volvo 850 Wagon Blog are fantastic technical resources.

I've actually been a little surprised that it's a little more exciting than I thought it would be. It's louder than I thought, and while the steering isn't quite as responsive as I was expecting, the overall feel is very nice. It's also fulfilled a lifelong dream to own a car with heated seats.

Someone brought up Matthew's Volvo Site when I was talking about buying this one, maybe it was you. I've already been on there multiple times, it's been pretty handy.

Just to give you some ideas.

There's nothing quite like the sound of an inline-5, eh? My R has a wonderful growl, but I wasn't sure if that was the result of a sporty exhaust, or just inherent in the design. Nice to know that the others sound pretty good, too.

Heated seats are the best thing ever. Unfortunately, the driver's side one on mine doesn't work, but at least the passenger is happy.

I've always heard that they sound good, but I didn't think it would be as satisfying as the V8 in my old Thunderbird.
